The woman was traveling with Reeves as her passenger in a 2020 Toyota Camry before it stopped for unknown reasons on the slow lane. A few moments after, an unidentified driver of a Hino box truck traveling about 55 miles per hour came from behind and struck the tail of the smaller car.
Quintero said that Toyota could not stop in time to avoid the collision. The impact left Reeves with moderate injuries, and the medics took him to Orange County Global Medical Center for treatment. The female driver had extensive wounds and passed away while receiving treatment at Riverside Community Hospital.
The accident report showed that the truck driver did not sustain any injury, and he left the scene after speaking with the authorities. The crash led to the closure of several lanes on the roadway for hours. The authorities reopened it after their preliminary inquiry and clearing debris from the road; the investigation remains ongoing.
