A woman who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the Interstate 5 on Tuesday, September 29, has now been identified by the authorities. The deceased was identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as Maria De La Luz Torres, 66, of Palmdale.
According to the details shared by the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident took place along the southbound lanes of the I-5. It occurred in the morning and was reported to the authorities at around 8:15 a.m.

The crash involved a number of vehicles including an SUV, a semi-truck, a trash truck and a Homeland Security vehicle identified as a Ford Explorer. The Los Angeles County Fire Department initially received the reports of the crash. However, the department’s response was cancelled before its personnel could reach the site of the accident.
Torres was traveling in a Subaru Crosstrek SUV when her vehicle became involved in the collision. It isn’t clear exactly how the accident took place and CHP is yet to share the relevant details. However, CHP did confirm that Maria De La Luz Torres sustained critical injuries in the accident and was pronounced dead on the scene.
A CHP spokesperson further confirmed that a Homeland Security agent also sustained moderate injuries in the crash. He was transported to the Holy Cross Medical Center. The identity of the agent remains unknown.
Following the crash, CHP shut down three southbound lanes of the I-5 as the law enforcement personnel conducted on-site cleanup and investigation. The lanes were reopened at around 4 p.m. Subsequent accident reports from CHP may confirm who the negligent party was and how the crash came about.
