The young man took the lawmen on a chase that lasted for thirty minutes and ended with the suspect crashing through a guardrail at about 1 a.m. Chris Thorson, with the state patrol, said that before the accident, they tried to use a PIT maneuver on Jerred’s vehicle three times near the intersection of 16th Avenue and State Route 12.
The young man sustained severe wounds in the crash, and the authorities took him to Harborview Medical in Seattle. He is facing several felony charges, as well as outstanding warrants. There is no additional information at this time.
Police chase often ends in single-vehicle crashes, and sometimes collisions due to its high-speed nature. Thus, when a suspect flees at top speed, law enforcement officers should follow at a speed that will not impact public safety.
Officers should not overdrive their skills and ensure they exercise due care. Use GPS technologies to locate the suspect, and break up the natural occurrence of tunnel vision by deliberately scanning for hazards left and right.
Offenders who crash their vehicles in a police chase should hire a top accident lawyer for legal advice and representation.
