29-year-old Thomas R. Conger of Ellensburg tragically died after his vehicle was struck by a semi after Confer reportedly ran a stop sign west of Ellensburg last Sunday afternoon.
The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office reported that Mr. Conger was traveling southbound on Cove Road just after 3:00 PM local time when he blew past the aforementioned stop sign at Hanson Road and was subsequently hit by the semi. The semi was driven by a Moses Lake man.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that there is no current evidence that alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident.
Sheriff Clay Meyers released a statement saying, “It is always a tragedy when we lose a member of our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Conger’s family and friends.”
The Sheriff’s Office did not report any definitive reason as to why Conger ran the stop sign.

Kittitas County, WA – 02/03/2020 – A two vehicle collision claimed the life of 29-year-old Thomas Conger Sunday afternoon.On 2-2-20, shortly after 3:00 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies responded a report of a semi vs pickup collision at the intersection of Hanson Road and Cove Road. Investigation found that Thomas R. Conger age 29 of Ellensburg was eastbound on Hanson Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at Hanson and Cove. He was struck by a Mack truck driven by 51-year-old John Hundtoft of Moses Lake, who was southbound on Cove Road. The impact was to the driver’s door of the victim’s 2002 Nissan Frontier pickup. First responders from Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue transported Mr. Conger to Kittitas Valley Hospital for an intended airlift. Shortly after takeoff, he went into cardiac arrest and was returned to Kittitas Valley Hospital. Medical personnel were unable to revive him.
At this stage of the investigation we have no evidence that drugs or alcohol were factors in this collision.Sheriff Myers added that, “It is always a tragedy when we lose a member of our community.
