Stewart said that a Ford Mustang driven by an unidentified driver failed to obey a stoplight on 55th Avenue. The driver was heading west on Bethany Home Road. The disobedience caused the Mustang to collide with a Honda minivan driven by Delgado.
The woman and Marin sustained severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by the medics. The Mustang driver had severe but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver has not been cited or charged.
The police are still investigating, and they have not ruled out the possibility of a drug or alcohol impairment on the part of the Mustang driver.
Under Arizona law, a person who beats a stop sign commits a traffic offense, which gets settled with a fine. However, when such an act results in an accident, and a person dies, it becomes criminal. If charged and convicted, the offender faces time in state prison.
Those involved in this kind of accident should contact auto accident attorneys to discuss possible defense and liabilities.
