The felony complaint showed that Pemberton allegedly used fraudulent means to obtain $500 000 from one older citizen and $200 000 from another. The complaint also alleged that the man misrepresented the financing amount he received from investors.
Pemberton also failed to disclose a default on the lease covering 1114 Chorro Street, San Luis Obispo. He was supposed to develop a property that once housed the Sports Authority in downtown San Luis Obispo.
The suspect was allegedly going to turn the property into a multi-use facility with a bar, restaurant, and bowling alley. Pemberton is facing up to 16 years and four months in prison if convicted. The police have not taken him into custody, but a warrant is out for his arrest.
The District Attorney Bureau of Investigations investigated the case against the man. Elder abuse as defined by the World Health Organization is “A single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust which causes harm or distress to an older person.”

These cases are the worst! I just hate elder abuse! Elder abuse is a critical social, health, and economic problem. … Elder abuse also is a critical public health issue. Survivors report higher rates of depression. They often withdraw from social interactions, and many blame themselves, which results in shame and silence and magnifies these effects….Thank you for reporting on this, we all need to stay vigilant and report such cases!!!!
