One of the accident reports from Bakersfield, California, on Monday, April 6th, is that of a suspect that led the police in a chase. Jose Ruiz, 28, was arrested by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office after he struck a deputy’s vehicle.
The events that led to Ruiz’s arrest began at about 2:40 p.m. after the KCSO got a call from a person tracking his stolen vehicle. The unnamed person was at 6100-block of Niles Street in Bakersfield.

The KCSO dispatched deputies to the area, and they located the vehicle. Inside were two men and a woman. On seeing the officers, one man tried to flee but was apprehended by the police; the woman got away.
Ruiz, who was driving the vehicle, fled with it and tried to hit the cars of two deputies. He successfully struck a third, and the chase continued for five more minutes. The suspect then crashed into an unoccupied vehicle in the 2600-block of McNutt Street.
Afterward, Ruiz ran into the home of the owner of the vehicle and ended up in her backyard. He jumped fences into other homes in the neighborhood, but eventually, the police caught and took him into custody.
The accident report also showed that Ruiz was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. He is also charged with vehicle theft and evading and resisting arrest. The police have not stated when the suspect will get arraigned, or if he will get released on bond.
