The police spokesman Michael Haobsh said that they pronounced the man dead at the scene. Investigators believe that the victim was southbound on El Camino when he crossed into the northbound lanes for unknown reasons. He struck a sports utility vehicle, and the impact ejected him.
The driver of the SUV did not sustain any injury. Haobsh said that the heart of the SMPD goes out to Mitchell’s family and the driver involved. The investigation is ongoing, and there’s no additional information at this time.
Auto-motorcycle collisions are not uncommon, and when they occur, they are mostly fatal for the biker due to the open design of the two-wheeled drive. Motorcycle riders can avoid severe and fatal injuries by ensuring that they wear helmets certified by the United States Department of Transportation and protective apparel. The latter covers leather or reflective jackets, finger-length gloves, long pants, and ankle-length boots.
