Investigations conducted at the crash site showed that a 2003 Honda Civic was involved in the mishap, which left a Holland Hospital nurse with disabling injuries. The Honda, driven by a nineteen-year-old Holland man, was heading north, in the far-right-lane of Michigan Avenue. At the same time, a pickup truck was eastbound on the same route, directly in front of the Honda. The truck suddenly turned left, forcing the teenage motorist to sway sideways to avoid a crash.
The move caused the Honda to veer off the road and ran over the two pedestrians on the sidewalk. Authorities are on the lookout for the pickup operator, who reportedly failed to stop at the scene after the crash.
An AeroMed helicopter transported the female victim, identified as Olivia Ancil, 22, of Zeeland, to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. The 26-year-old Holland man accompanying her when the crash happened received transportation to the same hospital via an AMR Ambulance.
A relative confirmed via a social media post that Ancil suffered a fractured spine, shattered leg bones, and skull fractures. Information on the man’s condition is pending.
Meanwhile, family members transported the young man operating the Honda to the nearby Holland Hospital.
