Investigators disclosed that at approximately 12:30 p.m., Barbara was driving a Ford Escape on County Road 604, with Haley and Hannah as her passengers. For unknown reasons, she went off the roadway close to a bridge on southbound Happy Trail Road near Alvarado.
The woman collided with a rail, which significantly impaired the front of her vehicle. Georgianna Coffman, who witnessed the crash, said the Ford was so wrecked, she could not come to terms with it.
The teenagers sustained extensive injuries and died without making it to the hospital. The girls were students of Alvarado High School, and Hannah was scheduled to finish this June. Haley, on the other hand, just graduated from junior high.
The district provided grief counselors for both staff and students as they mourn the tragic loss. The accident report also showed that the investigators are still on the quest to determine what caused Barbara to lose control of her car. They will provide an update when they have the answer.
