56-year-old Delbert Dean Green of San Bernardino was driving a 2017 Peterbilt semi in the second lane of northbound traffic. When he saw the pedestrian in his path, he attempted to swerve to the left but was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian.
The right side of Green’s truck came into contact with the pedestrian. After the accident, Green stopped his semi in the median of Interstate 5 and waited for authorities to arrive.
Emergency personnel called to the scene transported the unnamed pedestrian to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of his injuries. Unfortunately, while at the hospital he was pronounced dead. His name will be released once the family has been notified of his passing.
Green was uninjured in the accident. He stayed at the scene and cooperated fully with the police. Although the accident is still being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, they do not suspect drugs and/or alcohol as factors in the accident. Preliminary testing at the scene have confirmed this assumption.
