The initial reports about the accident indicated that Tamez was coming out of an apartment complex along Western Avenue around 4:50 p.m. on March 4. The report indicated that Tamez was on her way to work and turned to go toward Interstate 10.
Another vehicle driving in the same direction by an 83-year-old man was described to have been driving erratically.
The erratically driven car collided with Tamez, sending her into a nearby telephone pole.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced Tamez dead due to the accident. The driver and passenger in the car that hit her were taken to University Hospital after being safely removed from their car, which had rolled over in the accident.
There has not been an update as to their condition. Their names have also not been released as of March 8.
Police indicated in the report that the driver of the vehicle that hit Tamez stated he did not remember the accident occurring. This could be a sign of an underlying memory issue, or he sustained serious head injuries during the collision.
There has been no report on drugs or alcohol being suspected as a factor in the accident. The San Antonio Police Department will release updates as information becomes available.
The accident is still under investigation.
