As Shrake blacked out, the vehicle left the roadway. It then collided with a traffic sign before hitting a ditch where it came to a stop. When rescue personnel and others reached the site of the crash, the vehicle was found 20 feet from the roadway.
Shrake sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to the HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. At this point, it is not clear whether his injuries are non-serious or critical. It is also not known whether he remains under treatment or has been discharged from the hospital.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the crash. The investigations are expected to conclude fairly soon as the single-vehicle accident didn’t involve any other vehicles or individuals. Speed, alcohol or drugs have also not been cited as probable causes. It is quite likely that a medical condition caused Shrake to black out briefly, causing the crash. A more definite cause will be known once the investigations are completed.
