Reports provided by the WSP confirmed that the fatal victim, identified as Antonio C. Macias, 68, of Wapato orchestrated the accident after reportedly running a red light. Prior to the encounter, Macias was driving his 2000 Acura TL sedan westbound on West First Avenue. Upon approaching the Highway 97 intersection, the motorist failed to yield to the red signal on the traffic light and entered the intersection out of turn.
Before making it across, however, he encountered a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, which was northbound on Highway 97. The WSP said Jaime A. Aguayo, a 22-year-old resident of Toppenish, was driving the Chevrolet at the time. He survived the crash without sustaining any injury.
Meanwhile, Macias, who was not restrained when the collision happened, suffered fatal injuries. First responders pronounced him dead shortly after they arrived. Detectives did not immediately ascertain whether impairment by drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash, which remains under investigation.
Victims of traffic collisions or their families should endeavor to get in touch with a car accident lawyer for counsel and if deemed necessary, representation.
