At the same time, the driver of a Honda Civic, Reane Demery, was heading west. The motorist for unknown reasons crossed into the eastbound lane and went directly into the Chevrolet path. The two vehicles collided head-on at the intersection of both roadways.
The collision’s impact sent both cars to the right shoulder of the Highway, and the Honda’s engine ended up in a nearby almond orchard. Gonzalez sustained significant injuries, and paramedics rushed her to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, where she passed away while receiving treatment.
Demery sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries, and the medics took her to the hospital for treatment. CHP investigators determined that the motorist was driving under the influence of alcohol at the wreck’s time.
They arrested the woman on suspicion of felony DUI, hence a drunk driving attorney. The crash led to the Highway’s closure for about four hours while the investigators collected evidence and cleared debris. The accident remains under investigation.
