The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Transit Services Bureau in a press briefing said that the woman and a male toddler were knocked down by a Metro train. The accident occurred on Wednesday, April 15th, at about 8:45 a.m.

Papagayo was in the train station near California Avenue and Duarte Road. The train that struck the woman was traveling north on the L Line, formerly the Gold Line, from Monrovia Station. The woman and the child, presumed to be under 2-year-old, sustained severe injuries.

The authorities pronounced the two dead at the scene, and the coroner has still not identified the boy. Ramon Montenegro,an officer with the bureau said that the accident led to the closure of the railway for several hours.

The Monrovia Police is investigating the details of the crash, with the bureau assisting. They will provide updates once they have more information.

Trains are considered one of the safest means of transport, but accident reports have shown that approximately 3, 000 train accidents cause about 1, 000 deaths yearly. The negligence of rail line operators causes a lot of the crashes.

Most rail accidents end in death or severe injuries, and those injured can bring a civil lawsuit against the train company to recover damages. A person who chooses to sue would require the services of a personal injury or wrongful death attorney depending on the circumstances of the case.
