The preliminary accident report showed that the deceased was one out of three people traveling in a black Toyota Scion, which parked in the emergency lane against the center divider of the road heading north on the interstate.
The Toyota spun out of control and crashed into the center divider. A Toyota Corolla then pulled up, and the driver stepped out to help the occupants of the Scion.
The situation got worse when a Chevrolet Tahoe, traveling at high speed, drove past the two parked vehicles and struck the Scion, sending it spinning. The car overturned, and then caught fire.
When paramedics got to the scene, Navarro’s extensive injuries had claimed her life, and they pronounced her. The other two occupants, who remain unidentified, sustained severe injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Corolla also got critically injured when the Chevrolet struck the Scion and was transported to the hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet and the three passengers didn’t go unscathed and ended up getting hospitalized.
A total of six people were taken to the hospital with critical injuries, and the California Highway Patrol said the female driver of the Chevrolet was under the influence of marijuana and will be charged accordingly upon surviving her wounds.
