The boys were not far from the Central Valley High School, and CPD and officers of the CHP conducting training at the local station acted as first responders. The boys had veered off the road and crashed their car against a power pole and a tree.
The car overturned after the crash, and Alfaro was ejected from it, while the three others remained inside. Officers found the deceased’s body on the floor and pronounced him dead.
One of the boys, name withheld, was trapped in the vehicle and firefighters from the Modesto Fire Department, who also responded to the 911 call, extricated him from the car. All three boys, consisting of two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old, had minor injuries.
The CPD Major Accident Investigation Team is heading the inquiry into the cause of the crash. Speed seems to be the primary cause, and drugs or alcohol have not been linked to the accident yet.
A single candle was lit at the crash site early on Thursday morning for Alfaro after Blaker Road, which was closed down, was reopened. Anyone with information about the crash should contact the CPD on its listed line.
