The Cobb County Police Department was called to an accident on Sunday, February 9, just before 7:30 p.m. The accident occurred on the East-West Connector, near the entrance to Tramore Village Apartments, which are situated less than a mile from Powder Springs Road.
Steven Fitzgerald, a 50-year-old Marietta man, was driving his 2013 Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle heading westbound on the East-West Connector. As Fitzgerald was approaching the entrance for the apartment complex, a tan 2018 Toyota Tacoma turned left out of the complex and into the path of Fitzgerald’s motorcycle.

The front of Fitzgerald’s Harley made contact with the right side of the Tacoma. Fitzgerald was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident according to Sergeant Wayne Delk with the Cobb County Police Department.
The driver of the Tacoma was identified as 26-year-old Stanley Anderson of Atlanta. He was transported to WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell for the treatment of minor injuries sustained in the accident.
The passenger in Anderson’s truck, 24-year-old Michael Tucker of Marietta, was also transported to WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell, but his injuries were listed as serious.
There was no report in the current press release if Fitzgerald was wearing any sort of personal protective gear when the accident occurred.
Per the state of Georgia’s Motorcycle Operations Manual, it is required by the state for a motorcycle rider to wear a Department of Transportation compliant helmet. The state also requires that eye and face protection be worn by the rider.
The state requires this for the safety of the motorcycle rider. Motorcycles do not offer the same safety features as an automobile which makes the opportunity for injury even higher.
The Cobb County Police Department is currently still investigating the accident between Fitzgerald and Anderson. There has not been any indication at this time if charges will be filed as a result of the accident.
