This was when Lavern Gank’s vehicle collided with the tollway booth. The crash occurred at around 2:40 p.m. As first responders and law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene of the incident, Gank was pronounced dead.
According to the Illinois State Police, Gank sustained relatively minor injuries in the incident. However, he was pronounced dead about an hour later after being taken to a local hospital. According to the autopsy results from the Cook County medical examiner’s office, Gank died of his injuries. Officials with the examiner’s office also suspect that Gank may have suffered a medical emergency just before the accident occurred. This would account for his death despite minor injuries sustained in the crash. Final accident reports from the medical examiner’s office have ruled Gank’s death as an accident. It is not clear whether the authorities are still investigating the incident or if the investigations have been concluded.
