A woman succumbed to her injuries from a hit-and-run accident and died on Friday, July 10. The accident in which she had been injured took place five days earlier. The deceased was identified by the Illinois State Police as Deja Bowdry aged 19 as per the preliminary accident reports.
According to the details shared by the authorities, the would-be fatal hit-and-run incident occurred on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago. Bowdry was traveling in the southbound lanes of the Expressway when her vehicle ran into some problem. She stopped and parked her vehicle, purportedly to check what the problem was. Her vehicle was parked on the left shoulder and partially on the left lane as well. Deja Bowdry then exited her vehicle.

This was when another southbound vehicle traveling in the left lane struck her. The tragic incident occurred close to the Garfield Boulevard. It happened early in the morning and was reported to the authorities at around 4:45 a.m.
Bowdry sustained critical injuries in the crash. Once first responders arrived on the scene of the accident, she was rushed to a local hospital. She had been at the hospital for nearly five days but finally succumbed to her injuries on Friday.
The vehicle which struck Bowdry has been broadly identified by the ISP as a gold-colored SUV. The identity of the driver remains unknown. ISP remains on the lookout for the driver involved in the incident. Hit-and-run with a fatality carries serious penalties in Illinois. Once the driver is identified, it is likely that criminal charges will be sought by ISP. Subsequent accident reports may reveal the identity of the driver once apprehended.
