A woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle wreck early Friday afternoon in rural Elizabeth, authorities reported.
Fifty-seven-year-old Amy A. McDermott, a resident of Elizabeth, was airlifted to the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison after the crash, according to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. No other vehicles were involved and no additional injuries were listed on car accident reports.

Authorities said McDermott at about 12:20 p.m. Friday was driving on Wachter Road east of Clark Lane when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a culvert, deputies said.
Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene. McDermott was taken from the scene via helicopter for treatment of serious injuries. An updated condition report was not immediately available.
Car accident reports available Friday evening do not say whether anyone else was in McDermott’s vehicle at the time of the crash. Authorities have not said whether they suspect the involvement of contributing factors, such as use of intoxicants or excessive speeding.
