Almost a year after the crash that killed 36-year-old mom of three Melissa Newton, driver Scott Gragson must pay $12.8 million to her children.
On May 30, 2019, Gragston was traveling with Newton and three other passengers when he lost control of his Range Rover, according to accident reports.

He hit a tree near Flamingo Road and Town Center Drive in The Ridges community, killing Newton and seriously injuring three people.
Back in February, the eminent real estate broker pleaded guilty to felony charges of DUI causing death as well as charges of DUI causing substantial bodily harm.
Court documents now show that Newton’s children will receive a total to $21 million from a settlement. Gragson will pay $12.8 million while his insurance carrier will pay the remaining amount.
The injured trio were identified as Christie Cobbett, Greg Tassi, and Christopher Bentley. They were reported to be suing Gragston for injuries sustained in the accident.
Bentley received brain damage while the other two passengers suffered unspecified injuries that were said to be severe.
Gragston was speeding and intoxicated when the crash occurred. He had just left a charity event.
His blood alcohol concentration was said to be more than twice the 0.08 percent legal limit, accident reports state.
