Authorities said a wrong-way driver was killed Friday afternoon in a head-on crash near Breckenridge that injured the other driver.
Twenty-six-year-old Mercedes E. Fulton, of Iowa Park, was pronounced dead from her injuries at the scene of the crash, which was reported at about 4:30 p.m. Friday a few miles outside Breckenridge, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Thirty-seven-year-old Jacob Herring, the other driver involved in the crash, was injured, car accident reports state.

Fulton at about 4:30 p.m. Friday was driving the wrong way in the southbound lane of Texas 67, according to state troopers. Her vehicle approached one driven south by Herring, a resident of Breckenridge, car accident reports state.
Troopers said Fulton attempted to return to the correct lane at the same time Herring swerved to avoid the crash. The vehicles collided head-on, according to car accident reports.
Fulton was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck by emergency medical personnel, car accident reports state. Herring was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, troopers said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the incident. It is still unclear whether factors like intoxication or speed are thought to have contributed to the wreck.
Fulton’s loved ones started a GoFundMe campaign to benefit her survivors. The effort had raised about $4,500 toward a $10,000 goal in just about 18 hours.
“Her son, parents, siblings, other family and friends are shocked and overwhelmed by this tragic loss,” organizers wrote in the campaign information post. “We trust God to walk them through this and comfort them.”
