The Winnebago County Coroner, Bill Hintz, arrived at the crash site at about 5:11 p.m. Hintz pronounced McAlister deceased at precisely 6:06 p.m. There was no passenger in the two-engine plane at the time of the wreck.
The FAA is investigating the cause and manner of McAlister’s death. Results from the toxicology test conducted on the victim’s remains would ascertain whether drugs and alcohol were factors in the plane crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board would assist the FAA during the crash investigation. Investigators would try to determine what led to the accident. The NTSB would update the findings from the investigations in subsequent accident reports.
Possible causes of plane crashes include impairment, distracted driving, damaged mechanical parts, or an obstacle on the runway, which could hinder a hitch-free takeoff.
While in flight, inclement weather conditions and malfunctioning communication or signal radios can lead to a crash. Therefore, it is essential to check all vehicular parts, observe the runway for potential hazards, and ensure the weather is favorable before taking off.
