A little after 10 a.m., the man drove through the track and ended up colliding against the train. The impact of the collision made the Buick catch fire and sent it off the railroad. The vehicle rested near a small crossing.
White didn’t have a chance of survival, and he passed away from injuries sustained from the fiery collision. The authorities noted that the railroad crossing does not have flashing lights, but crossing warning signage. The latter is meant to keep out drivers and pedestrians.
The accident report did not record any other injury, but it revealed that officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety joined the local authorities in investigating the tragic accident. Others at the scene include the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and officials with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
The authorities used the collision to reiterate the importance of drivers obeying warning signs on railroads and keeping away from tracks without adequate signage. Crossing a private railroad with a warning sign is also an act of trespass, and offenders are liable to pay a fine.
