The Georgia State Patrol and the Richmond Hill Police Department have teamed up to investigate a fatal wreck that occurred around 7 p.m. on March 19. The accident happened on Highway 17 between the Kings Ferry Boat Landing and 144.
At the accident scene, police found that two trucks had collided head-on. Based on the report, a Ford truck was driving south on highway 17. The accident occurred when a Chevrolet truck crossed the median and hit the Ford. One person was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Based on a personal investigation, the person who died in the accident has been identified as Richmond Hill basketball coach Steven Williams. A statement released on Friday, March 20, expressed that friends and family were mourning after learning of the passing of Williams in the Highway 17 accident.
The head coach for Richmond Hill boys basketball expressed the impact the loss of Williams is having on not only the team but the community. The Georgia Coastal Ballers AAU team was built from the bottom up by Williams in 2008. He created a program that has developed top-level talent.
The community considered Williams to be the backbone of the Richmond Hill community. They are planning a candlelight vigil for the coach on Saturday, March 21, at 7 p.m. The location is slated for South Bryan County Recreation’s Timber Trail Park.
The Georgia State Patrol and Richmond Hill Police are still investigating the accident.
