There are some measures that you can follow to stay safe if you run out of gas.
If you have called someone to bring you gas, for instance, AAA, make sure that you have your hazard lights flashing on your vehicle. Putting your car into neutral and getting it to the shoulder or off of a busy roadway can be a lifesaving action.
Equip your car with an emergency kit. You can supply it with flashing lights and a bright vest if you need to stay outside of the vehicle during a crisis, such as running out of gas.
Never assume that another motorist is going to see you on the side of the roadway.
