The authorities said that Perez, who was taking a walk at the same time, stepped into the roadway without notice. He walked directly into the path of the motorcycle, and the rider could not stop in time to avoid striking him.
Perez sustained severe trauma to his body, and the medics had to use an air ambulance to fly him to Doctors Medical Center, Modesto. Stuart, on the other hand, went to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of unspecified wounds.
There is no additional information on the crash at the time of this report. The CHP is heading the investigation and will release an update when new details surface.
A motorcycle-pedestrian crash is not as uncommon as an auto-pedestrian accident. However, accident reports show that the two are more dangerous to the pedestrian, with the motorcyclist next in line before the vehicle driver.
Traffic officials advise that to prevent these collisions, riders, pedestrians, and drivers should exercise care and caution while on the road. Motorcyclists and motorists should give pedestrians the right of way, and the latter should cross using only designated crosswalks.
