On Monday, August 24th, the San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe announced the sentencing of the man involved in a fatal DUI crash in San Mateo, California. 32-year-old Ramon Hernandez of Redwood City received a 1-year prison sentence and four years of supervised probation.
The man faced charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. In January, he pleaded no contest to felony drunk driving with enhancements for causing significant bodily injury and having a blood alcohol content over .15 percent.

The incident which claimed the life of a woman identified as Ivania Torres, 50, of South San Francisco, occured on January 19th on U.S. Highway 101. The California Highway Patrol stated in the car accident report that the victim alighted from a Toyota Yaris after a Dodge Charger rear-ended her at about 1:50 a.m.
It happened on the southbound lane of the highway south of Third Avenue. A Toyota Camry operated by Hernandez then struck Torres and the Dodge, leaving the woman with fatal injuries that claimed her life at the crash site. Wagstaffe said that the defendant was speeding in the fast lane before the collision.
Debris from the earlier incident was strewn across the roadway, causing other motorists to either slow down or stop. The DA’s office said that the defendant had been drinking in San Francisco and had a BAC level of .16 percent.
The CHP said that Hernandez and another occupant of the Toyota suffered injuries from the occurrence. The defendant has served 300 days of his sentence and has only 64 days left.
