The California Highway Patrol said in a press release on Monday, August 24th, that speed and an attempt to overtake a vehicle cost a 20-year-old male his life. Miguel Jiminez, of Atwater, died from the injuries sustained in the head-on collision about 10 miles east of Denair, California.
The car accident report placed the time of the occurrence at about 3:45 p.m. on Hawkins Road north of Keyes Road. The CHP said that emergency responders found two wrecked vehicles — a 1999 Acura Coupe and a 2012 Ford pickup.

Jiminez, who drove the Acura, was stuck in it and unresponsive, and medics pronounced him dead. The driver of the Ford, identified as 32-year-old Merced resident Mauricio Millanarzate suffered minor wounds and received treatment at the Oak Valley Hospital.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was southbound on Hawkins Road on top speed when he approached a slower moving vehicle. Millanarzate was northbound on Hawkins approaching the two cars.
Jiminez crossed the double yellow line of the roadway to pass the slower vehicle and entered directly into the path of the Ford on the northbound lane. The two cars collided head-on, and the impact left the Acura on the northbound lane with the Ford overturning on its right side on the east shoulder of the roadway.
The accident did not impact the vehicle in front of the victim. The CHP said that the men were wearing their seat belts at the collision, and drugs or alcohol do not appear to have factored in the occurrence.
