According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, authorities at about 9:15 a.m. Monday were called to the private airstrip to investigate a report of a plane that apparently had crashed along the nearby East Fork Lewis River.
Accident reports state Banta was found dead at the scene of the crash.
Deputies determined that Banta had taken off from a Camas airfield earlier that day. However, few other details have been determined and no witnesses reported seeing the ultralight plane crash.
The incident will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board. The agency eventually will release a report detailing the findings.
One of Banta’s friends drafted a tribute to the fallen pilot and posted to social media channels. The post deemed Banta a “man of great talent and creativitiy.”
“Death came quickly to Quin doing what his spirit loved to do: soaring above the Earth’s beauty,” the friend wrote in the post. “We share our sadness and condolences with his family and many friends. … His giving, loving spirit knew no bounds and will remain in the soul of the forest he loved.”
