Ayon was pronounced dead at the scene by San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office when emergency personnel arrived.
The suspect’s vehicle is described to be a silver Nissan Altima. The year was not specified in reports. It is possible that the vehicle sustained some damage to the front passenger side of the car.
After the initial accident, the car continued their drive westbound, fleeing from the scene.
The San Diego Police Department is currently still investigating the circumstances that led up to the accident. Ayon is reported to have been employed by a fast food restaurant that was near the accident site.
When the driver who caused the death of Ayon is found, they could be facing serious vehicular manslaughter charges. These charges can be a misdemeanor, or they can be a felony. Due to the circumstances of the accident, and fleeing the scene, there is a possibility that it will be charged as a felony.
A felony vehicular manslaughter conviction is punishable by up to six years in state prison. The DMV is also likely to suspend the offender’s driver’s license.
The San Diego Police Department is seeking out information and help from the public regarding this accident. They are asking that if anyone sees a vehicle fitting the description of the Nissan with front end damage to call the department’s traffic division at 858-495-7800.
