The police in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Monday, May 11th, arrested a woman for driving under the influence, and she would need a drunk driving attorney’s expertise. Mercedes T. Murray, 29, caused an accident that left herself and a minor injured.
According to the police’s preliminary accident report, the woman who resides at 722 N. Clay Avenue, was driving west at about 3:43 p.m. on Morton Avenue. At the same time, a woman identified as Deborah L. Green, 54, of Roodhouse, stopped at a traffic signal at Westgate Avenue.

The second driver was still stationary when Murray struck her from behind. The impact of the collision left the suspect and a 6-year-old girl traveling with Green with non-life-threatening injuries. The paramedics took the two to Passavant Area Hospital for treatment.
The police said that they later determined that Murray was intoxicated at the time of the crash, and arrested her on suspicion of DUI. They also cited her for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Impaired driving as a result of alcohol or drug use, or a combination of both, is one of the leading causes of fatal accidents in Illinois and the United States. Driving over and beyond the speed limit is another common factor, and the authorities frown at the two.
Drivers who are intoxicated or speeding when an accident occurs are liable to face criminal prosecution. The punishment the court awards in both instances depends on whether the victim died or only sustained injuries.
A conviction, however, often carries a jail term, a fine, and the suspension of the offender’s driving privileges. A drunk driving attorney is always useful to those involved in DUI accidents for legal advice and representation.
