The home the driver crashed into is on the 700-block of Equestrian Drive. The officers and the firemen found an SUV partially lodged into the entryway of the house, with no one inside the car. They found Maciel-Pulido underneath the vehicle, and neighbors said he had been there for a while.
The man was unresponsive at the time, and the medics pronounced him dead before taking his body to the coroner for identification. The investigators gathered from witnesses that a woman and her daughter lived in the affected building.
One witness said the woman was standing in her home office when the SUV drove into it, but she didn’t sustain any injury. Further investigations uncovered that a male neighbor chased the driver as he fled the accident scene. The man caught the male motorist at some point before losing him again as he went through a fence and several houses.
The report of the car accident also showed that the police dispatched K-9 units into the area that straddles Wheeling and Prospect Heights but could not find the driver. The man remains at large, and the search for him continues, as the investigation remains open.
