The authorities in Oakland, California, four months after a hit-and-run driver killed a woman and fled the scene, identified the suspect. The Oakland Police Department on Thursday, May 14th, disclosed the driver’s name as Henry Melendez, 26, and he would need the services of auto accident attorneys.
The authorities said that the young man was behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck and killed Miesha Singleton, 40, of San Leandro. The accident occurred on Friday, January 17th, at about 3:30 p.m. along 98th Avenue, near Bancroft Avenue, with Melendez driving a Nissan Maxima.

The preliminary accident report disclosed that the deceased was using the crosswalk in the 1800-block of the avenue when the suspect’s vehicle knocked her down. Melendez drove past a parked car giving the deceased the right of way to use the crosswalk.
Investigators said that Singleton was going to Elmhurst United Middle School to pick up her child when she met her end. The responding medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The suspect fled without stopping to render help.
The police found the Nissan with its front passenger windshield damaged days after. At the time, they released the young man’s description as a Latino man, 5-foot-7 tall, 137 pounds with brown eyes and dark hair.
The authorities also asked for the public’s help in locating Melendez, but the update provided did not state if tips helped them in finding him. There is no additional information at this time, and the police will release an update later.
