A driver who killed a bicyclist in the Alta Vista area of San Diego, California, would need a drunk driving attorney’s services. On Thursday, May 14th, the authorities disclosed that they have the suspect, James L. Bumpus, 28, in custody.
The San Diego Police revealed in a statement that the accident the man is accountable for occurred on the night of Wednesday, May 13th, at about 9:15 p.m. Bumpus was heading west in a 2008 Saab 9-3 sedan when he struck a bicyclist, identified as a 52-year-old man, from behind.

The cyclist was riding along the north edge of Paradise Valley Road when the crash occurred. The man sustained severe wounds, and the medics took him to an undisclosed hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Robert Heims of the SDPD said they determined that Bumpus was under the influence at the time of the collision, and arrested him on suspicion of DUI. There is no information on the jail the police booked the suspect into or his bail conditions.
A DUI accident under California law occurs when an intoxicated person knowingly drives a vehicle, and in the course of his or her travel, causes an accident. Ordinarily, a DUI without a collision is a traffic offense, but it becomes criminal when there’s grievous bodily harm or death.
When either of the two occurs, the court would consider the driver’s conduct in reaching a deserving punishment. The latter is usually time in jail, a fine, and suspension of the offender’s driving privileges. The family of a dead victim can also bring a wrongful death civil lawsuit with the help of a drunk driving attorney.
