A few minutes after 10 a.m., the police received another call that the driver had stopped on top of an above-ground PG&E transformer and that the person ran away on foot. Murillocuellas didn’t get very far, as an off-duty deputy with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office caught up with him, and effected an arrest.
The young man was booked into the San Mateo County Jail and is facing charges for vehicle theft, burglary, reckless driving, hit-and-run, and vandalism. There is currently no information on Murillocuellas’ bail bond.
The RDPD took care of the scene of the accident, working together with the Redwood City Fire Department. PG&E also responded, and immediately cut power to the affected transformer.
The offenses Murillocuellas is charged with, are taken seriously by the state of California. Hit-and-run is a traffic offense that sometimes ends with jail time, depending on the circumstances of the case.
Prosecutors charge a hit-and-run as a misdemeanor or a felony. To convict a person, the courts will consider the fact that there was an accident, and the driver failed to stop to render assistance and check the extent of the damage caused.
