The caller — who is also the owner of the vehicle — claimed the car was parked at La Azteca Meat Market on 2028 North Bryant Boulevard. The officer went to the market to verify the information, and Beatty, who was driving the car, sped away when the lawman tried to approach him.
The suspect while escaping collided with a blue Cadillac and a white pickup traveling north. Beatty then abandoned the Honda and fled on foot as the police gave chase. The man went through a restaurant before fleeing west on North Bryant Boulevard.
The driver of the pickup, identified as a 28-year-old male, followed the suspect into a field in the 1700-block of Hudson Street and successfully cut him off. The man tackled Beatty and detained him until an officer arrived and handcuffed him.
The police said that the suspect also had a warrant out for evading and might face additional charges pending the conclusion of their investigation.
The accident report also showed that a 16-year-old girl in the Cadillac sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Shannon Medical Center. The driver did not sustain any wound.
