However, as he tried to overtake the vehicle in front, he failed to see a second vehicle traveling in front of the other vehicle. This second vehicle, identified as a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, had slowed down at the time and was taking a left turn.
After crossing the first vehicle, Bouchard crashed directly into the rear of the Malibu. The sheer impact of the collision caused John P. Bouchard Jr. to be ejected from his motorcycle. He sustained critical injuries in the collision. Once first responders arrived, he was rushed to an area hospital. But he couldn’t recover and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Malibu had four occupants in it at the time. The driver was identified as Mattie M. Spears, 44, of Marion, Illinois. Spears had with her a 16-year-old girl and two children aged 11 and 12. Spears and the two pre-teens sustained injuries as the Malibu left the roadway and hit a house after the collision. Their injuries are reported as being non-life-threatening. ISP continues to investigate the incident and may release further details in the final accident reports.
