The investigators with the Nevada Highway Patrol said Vajtal was driving a Trike Can-Am motorcycle when he ran a red light where the eastbound Roy Horn intersects with South Durango. When the deceased crossed the intersection, a silver Kia Sorento driven by an unidentified driver struck the left side of the motorcycle.
The impact of the collision ejected Vajtal from his bike, and the latter caught fire at the same time. The man sustained extensive injuries, and the authorities pronounced him dead. The driver of the Kia did not sustain any wound, and the NHP said drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the accident.
The accident report also disclosed that the fatal collision led to the closure of the intersection for a few hours. The investigators opened it after collecting evidence and clearing debris from the roadway.
In a press briefing, Trooper Travis Smaka advised drivers and motorcyclists not to put themselves and others at risk by rushing across intersections at dangerously high speed. The accident remains under investigation.
