The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office has disclosed the identity of a pedestrian that was involved in an accident on Monday, March 16. The accident happened around 3 a.m. on West Michigan Avenue near Wilson Avenue in Ypsilanti Township.
Based on the reports compiled by the Sheriff’s Office, 28-year-old Jesse Cambell of Ypsilanti Township, was crossing West Washington Avenue when he was struck by a car shortly after stepping off of the curb.

Emergency personnel rushed Campbell to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead during treatment.
The driver of the vehicle that hit Campbell was only described as a 17-year-old girl from Ypsilanti. The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the driver. There was no indication that the driver received any injuries as a result of hitting the pedestrian.
Police shut down the area where the accident occurred while they investigated. They were able to reopen the road around 7 a.m.
Based on the preliminary results of the investigation, they do not believe that vehicle speed or alcohol consumption played a part in the accident. This was in reference to the 17-year-old driver.
Police have no released specific details regarding where Campbell was hit or if he was in a crosswalk at the time of the accident. Further investigation will be required to determine if Campbell was under the influence at the time he attempted crossing the street.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the accident. No citations or charges have been filed at this time.
