Jems of Litchfield was established in 1996 to produce goods and services to the automotive and other industries. Some of these manufactured products are receivers, hitches, and they have full in-house tooling capabilities.
After an initial investigation by Roberts and the other officers, they have no clue as to how the accident happened. They were assisted on the scene by the Litchfield Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Reading Emergency Unit.
The Lenawee/Hillsdale Medical Examiner was also called to the scene. They are the ones who pronounced 35-year-old Jonathan David Britton dead at the scene of the accident. Based on the reports, Britton’s body was pinned in the machine. They identified the machine in question as a press.
Factory machinery should have security measures in place to help prevent accidents like this from happening. The Litchfield Police Department has officially turned the investigation over to OSHA.
OSHA will come into the facility to investigate the accident as well as the current conditions of the factory. If they find that the factory is unsafe, they will receive citations as well as fines.
