The collision itself occurred later on Saturday night and was reported to the authorities around 11:58 p.m. Once the first responders and law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene, attempts to revive Gomez failed. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot.
The unfortunate accident occurred in Rancho Cucamonga. It is not clear at this point whether the other driver stayed on the scene following the accident or if this was a hit-and-run incident. Authorities have not revealed any information in this regard so far.
California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident. Subsequent accident reports from the police may reveal where Louie Gomez was standing when the incident occurred. The position of Gomez’ vehicle, his own position and the speed of the driver are some of the factors that may be used to determine liability in this case. If the other driver fled the scene, however, he or she may face certain charges regardless of whether or not the accident occurred due to their negligence.
