Grigoryan suffered fatal injuries in the collision, and paramedics declared him dead at the scene. The four other occupants sustained moderate to major injuries and received transportation to the hospital. Patrol officers believe no other vehicle was involved in the accident.
Following the crash, the CHP investigators closed down lanes 2, 3, and 4 of the freeway as investigations and clearing out continued. They issued a SigAlert to that effect at about 2:23p.m. and reopened the lanes four hours later.
Solo car accidents mostly result from factors which the motorist may have prevented by being traffic-safety conscious. Avoiding alcohol or drugs before hitting the road, discouraging all forms of distraction while driving, and driving within the permissible speed limit top the list of these safety measures. All motorists, therefore, have the obligation of obeying traffic rules and regulations, as well as traffic signals while driving.
