The driver of the first vehicle was 72 year old Pantelis Alourdas of Atlanta. He was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries rendering him in critical condition.
The accident resulted in five other people being injured, but not of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
In the newer model Camry, there was a lady from Arkansas and a child that were taken to Kennestone for treatment. In the Mercedes transport van, there were three individuals, but they did not sustain serious injuries.
The investigation of the accident determined that Alourdas did not slow down for the stopped traffic ahead of him but could not determine why.
Police are asking that anyone with information contact them.
This is just another example of one of the most common types of accidents that not only occurs in Georgia but most of the other states. When not enough distance is left between a vehicle and the one in front of them it can lead to not only a rear ender but a chain reaction where several vehicles are involved.
