There are several factors that could cause a driver to end up on the wrong side of the road, unfortunately, almost all of these end up being due to some form of negligence on their part while behind the wheel. When negligence is the cause of the accident, this can lead to personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits against the driver.
In most wrong-way accidents, the primary cause is usually impairment from drugs or alcohol. These cause a delay in perception and reaction times. There has been no statement released that indicates the circumstances of the wrong-way accident that killed Bustillos.
The driver in the accident could be facing vehicular manslaughter charges for the deaths involved from driving the wrong way. Police have not indicated if the driver has been or will be charged. The investigation is still ongoing, and information will be released as it becomes available.
