Vershaw then made a sharp right turn back into the southbound lanes of traffic and directly into the path of a Jeep Liberty driven by 50-year-old Olivia Garcia. The two vehicles collided head-on.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the collision. Emergency Medical Services pronounced Vershaw and her two-year-old child dead at the scene. The California Highway Patrol did not disclose if Vershaw and the child were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
An ambulance took Garcia from the scene of the accident to a local hospital for treatment of severe injuries. As of the time of publishing, there have been no updates to her condition.
