Emergency crews responded to the scene of an accident on the Interstate 15 Freeway on Friday, April 17, at 8:22 p.m. Once on the scene, they found a disabled vehicle on the right shoulder of the road and a pedestrian down in the number two lane of the freeway. This is the second pedestrian accident along the interstate in California this week.
When the 911 call came in, witnesses described that a female victim was hit in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15. Based on their preliminary investigation, police have concluded that the woman, identified as 32-year-old Las Vegas resident Lateishia Atkinson was in a car that broke down on the right side of the road.

Police have not figured out why the woman was in the road after the car broke down, but she was found in the number two lane where the emergency crew attempted to resuscitate her. Despite their life-saving efforts, Atkinson was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 9:03 p.m.
The unnamed driver of the SUV that struck Atkinson remained at the scene. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver cooperated fully, and they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.
The accident that killed Atkinson is the second pedestrian accident this week to claim the life of a Las Vegas resident on the I-15 Freeway. Earlier this week, a 43-year-old man was killed when his vehicle broke down on the side of the road. That victim’s name has not been released to the public.
The investigations into both of the accidents are currently ongoing.
