The El Paso Police Department released reports about an ATV accident that occurred on the night of April 17. The accident in question happened in a canal along the 300 block of north Zaragoza Road around 8 p.m.
The preliminary report released by the El Paso Police determined that 47-year-old Pedro Adrian Garcia was riding a Kawasaki Quad on a private road eastbound along the canal. The canal itself came to an intersection with another canal, which Garcia was not expecting, and he jumped the canal and struck the concrete wall of the opposite side.

Shortly after the accident, Garcia complained of having trouble breathing and was transported to the hospital. He died shortly after arriving at the hospital for treatment of the injuries he sustained.
There were no other injuries listed in conjunction with this accident. It is believed that Garcia was alone on the ATV at the time of the accident.
Police have not released the official cause of death for Garcia, although it is likely that he sustained head injuries or internal injuries in the accident. The statement did not disclose if Garcia was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigation unit conducted the investigation into the accident. Because Garcia was riding the ATV on a private roadway, his death does not count toward the city’s traffic fatality total.
The news reports did not indicate if the investigation had been closed regarding Garcia’s death.
